This tutorial will show you how to make a reflective effect with color adjustments
Step 1: First you have to find a suitable photo for this tutorial. I used the photo below (455x215 pixels)
Step 2: Open this photo with Photoshop and increase the working area by going to Image>Canvas Size and double the height of your document. Remember to set your parameters to pixel unit and set the Anchor like the image below:
Step 3: Now your document was extended at the bottom. Next press Ctrl-J twice to create two new copied layers. Go to Edit>Transform>Flip Vertical to make this layer up side down
Step 4: Use the Move Tool to place this layer at the bottom of your document
Step 5: We will change the colors of this layer by going to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and use the settings below to turn it into blue:
Here is what we get; not bad, right?
Step 6: Press Ctrl-J to duplicate this layer. We have to do this step because we want to preserve the black areas (at the center of your photo) from being affected by the next filter effect Now we will make the reflection more real by adding some glowing areas to make the "shadow" look like being reflected from the water. Go to Filter>Artistic>Plastic Wrap and use the settings below:
Look at the image below to understand more what we get now
Step 7: Notice that the border between the "shadow" and the real scene doesn't look real. We will delete this rough border by using the Eraser tool with a soft brush (0% hardness) to delete it
And now our scene looks really cool!
