In this tutorial we will go through some tips to turn a normal picture into a wonderful one with cool colors, just like your memory!

First find an image you want and open it with Photoshop. I use the image below:

Old_Memory_1

Step 1: First we will emphasize the white of this image with a small trick. Press Ctrl-J to duplicate this image and go to Filter>Distort>Diffuse Glow and use the default settings

Old_Memory_2

This effect will make the white "diffuse" while turn other colors into dark colors so we have an effect like this

Old_Memory_3

Step 2: Now go to Filter>Blur>Motion Blur to turn these white dots into lines with these settings

Old_Memory_4

Press Ctrl-F three times to repeat this effect to make these lines longer. After this step we will have an image like this

Old_Memory_5

Step 3: We are going to apply the "Hard Light" effect to this layer but it is now a little bright, so we need to reduce its brightness by going to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast. Reduce the brightness with these settings

Old_Memory_6

Step 4: Now we can change the blending mode of this layer to Hard Light. The achieved effect is rather good

Old_Memory_7

Step 5: We don't want these dark lines to appear on her skin so use the Brush tool (with a soft brush) to erase these lines. Below are the settings I choose

Old_Memory_8

Step 6: We should create a layer mask if we don't want to directly apply changes to this layer, so create a layer mask for this layer and eraser all the lines on her skin many times with the Brush tool to get this image.

Old_Memory_9

Step 7: Now merge all the layers together by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Alt-E. Next we will color this layer by going to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and use these settings to make this layer green (you can use other settings)

And here is the final result, a cool image with memorial color, right?
